Summer Guide to Summer Protection

Temperatures are consistently staying above 75 degrees and chairs at the pool are filling up. There is no excuse why one should not be outside when the weather is perfect, except if one fails to protect them. Sun protection is paramount with any exposure to the sun. Each year new products hit the market and it is essential to replace old products as they expire.

Body: Continuous spray sunscreen is some of the most convenient and easiest to apply. It is important to be aware where you spary and to still rub in so spots are not missed. Alba Very Emollient Mineral Sunscreen SPF 35 ($16) is fragrance free and no frills. All ingredients are vegetarian and are great for all skin types. The lotion goes on white so you know if you have everything covered. Soleil Du Midi Broad Spectrum SPF 30 ($36) mineral based sunscreen helps to moisturize while protecting. Oil Free sunscreens such as Hampton Sun Broad Spectrum Continuous Mist ($32) will not clog pores and the aloe vera will soothe skin. Lotions will give you the confidence that you have covered all angles as you expertly apply it. CeraVe Sunscreen Body Lotion ($14) has invisible zinc that will protect, but not leave you a shade closer to white. Perfect for the “water bug” Nature’s Gate Aqua ($9) is a broad spectrum, vegan, water resistance lotion that protects. Jurlique’s Sun Specialist in SPF 40 ($38) protects against UVA and UVB rays and is enriched with superberries and oils to protect and hydrate. The easiest of the sunscreens to transport is the stick. Neutrogena Cool Dry Sport ($10) is the perfect sunscreen for the highly active. It helps to cool skin and is both wet and sweat proof. Bare Republic’s Mineral Sport Sunscreen Stick ($10) is easy and convenient to use, it can fit in a pocket, and has a wonderful coconut, vanilla fragrance. For the most luxurious of protection is the sunning oil. It has come a far way and will not only leave you glistening, but protecting your skin as well. Vita Liberata Dry Oil SPF 50 ($45) and Clarins Sunscreen Care Oil Spray SPF 30 ($36) have a high SPF that protects while keeping you looking like a bronzed goddess.

Face: The face is constantly exposed to the elements. It is important that every day it is protected with sunscreen. Products are packed with it, but its best to stick with a simple sun protecting lotion. Tarte has introduced Tarte Guard ($30) a broad spectrum SPF 30 light weight enough to be applied under makeup. As well, La Roche-Posay’s Anthelios Clear Skin ($20) is oil free and is dry to the touch once applied. Sente Daily Repair ($130) is a complex day cream with SPF 30 to block out UVA and UVB rays and help reverse previous damage. SkinCeuticals Physical Matte UV Defense ($34) is great for sweaty, summer days where it seems as if shine does not quit. This will help to control oil and shine and keep makeup fresh longer. If that is not enough, Jane Iradle Powder-Me SPF ($47) is a dry sunscreen that works double time such like a mineral foundation. For the fellas there is Lab Series Daily Moisturizer ($48) or Anthony’s Oil Free Facial Lotion ($34). Both are packaged simply to not intimidate the men and they will be man enough to apply it daily.

After Sun: No matter how much precautions you take, there is bound to be a time when the sun gets the best of you. There is a wealth of products available to help soothe burnt skin and alleviate pain. Aloe is nature’s remedy and Sun Bum’s Cool Down ($10) is a hydrating after sun gel that has Vitamin E to help restore moisture. Davines has you covered from head to toe, their SU Hair & Body Wash ($23) is delicate enough to not further irritate skin and SU Aftersun ($28) will replenish skin with everything the sun dried up. Disposable face masks are all the rage, and just in time for summer is Leaders Insolution Too Much Fun in the Sun? ($4) a mask that soothes

and calms skin with a serum that will leave skin glowing after 20 minutes.

If picking and choosing all the right products for you is too overwhelming, Coola’s Classic Sport Travel Set ($40) has everything you need. Designed to be travel ready, the summer pouch has face sunscreen, classic sport continuous spray, lip protection and after sun lotion.
