Fifteen years ago, I sat down at my computer to write a supplemental essay for one of my college applications. I do not remember the prompt, but I do remember the subject: why purple is a powerful color. This royal hue has been an obsession of mine for longer than I have formed memories. So, when I heard that Pantone named Ultra Violet the color of 2018 I was ecstatic. From head to literal toe, I will be draped in it. Read below for the best beauty options out there.

Eyeshadow:
Pixi by Petra Mesmerizing Mineral Palette in Amethyst Aura ($12): If you cannot figure out which shade of violate you are feeling, this is for you. The palette has a range of violet shades building from light to deep violet. With six different shades the options are endless of how to use.
Elizabeth Arden Eye Shadow Trio Touch of Lavender ($22): When shimmer meets violet your eyes light up. This trio will pop into your Little Black Compact and be good to go. It is perfect for contouring your lids to create that perfect ombre look.
Urban Decay Eye Shadow in Fishnet ($20): If you are not sure if you want to commit to the trend, picking up a singular shade is a great way to test out the trend. I have been using Fishnet for years for when I want that pop. It is a bright violet with pink undertones.
Eyeliner:
Tart Clay Pot in Sugarplum ($21): This creamy liner is a wonderful way to add a subtle touch of ultra violet. To apply you need a liner brush. It goes on smooth for the cleanest line. It is waterproof so it will last the day.
Hard Candy Long Wear Eyeliner in Twisted Grape ($5): At this price it is the perfect way to see if the Ultra Violet color of the year will be for you. The color glides right on for a bright pop to line your eyes.
Lipgloss:
Pop Permanent Pout in OMG Violet ($14): For the bold who are shouting from the roof tops about this color of the year will love this lip paint. It is vibrant beyond description and rich with pigments. It goes on glossy, but after a few minutes it dries matte. Complimenting a nude eye and minimal blush this matte lip paint will make your pout pop.
Clarins Instant Light Lip Balm in Plum ($26): For a more subtle approach to Ultra Violet this nourishing lip balm will tint your lips with purple hues. The minimal hint of color is perfect for those days where you want to add just a touch of color to your make up.
Nails
Sally Hansen Color Therapy in Slicks and Stones ($6): For a rich, deep, royal purple this polish has glitter that enhances the color. When it catches the light it changes hues. It is a great shade for winter months and will go great with all looks.
Dare to Wear in City of Angels ($7): On the periwinkle end of the violet spectrum, this beautiful shade is not quiet a deep shade and not quiet a pastel. On short, square filed nails this shade is eye catching from across the room.
Sinful Colors in Let's Talk ($2): Metallics on metallics is the party that is happening in this bottle. Quintessentially purple, this shade is the most fun way to go the next step and fall in love with the trend.
