Soap vs. Shower Gel: The Showdown

The great debate will never be settled, but its okay. Should you choose bar soap or shower gel? It’s a hard choice and it can be made. It is not permanent and each one serves a need or purpose.

Starting with the oldie, but goodie, bar soap has been around for a long time. And it works. There are excellent options out there for every need from sensitive skin to luxurious soaps that transport you elsewhere, even if it is for a short time. Clairvoyant Beauty Triple Milled Organic Lavender Soap ($12) is a classic bar of soap with a relaxing scent that is great for just before bed. After the winter that raged on moisture is stripped from skin and oatmeal is notorious for giving it back. Yardley Oatmeal and Almond Soap ($6) or Acure Oatmeal + Apple Pie ($6) defend against dry skin. There is also CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser Bar ($7), which was developed by dermatologists to help lock in three times the amount of moisture. In the shower the purpose is to clean and purify, so Ahava’s Deadsea Mud Purifying Mud Soap ($10) or Vaughn’s Bar Soap ($22) that work to remove all impurities from skin. Help to remove pesky dead skin with an exfoliating soap such as Earth Therapeutics Loofah Exfoliating Soap ($3) has bits of gentle loofah in the soap to help sloth off dead skin to help reveal smooth skin. Bring luxury into the bathroom with your favorite fragrances. Tocca soaps ($12) are available in your favorite scents that you spritz on before leaving, so why not enjoy them as you get ready.

For those in the other camp, there is the shower gel or body wash. Get your shower sponge ready for the plethora of options. Bioelements Vitalization Rich Intensity Body Cleanser ($33) and Juara Candlenut Hydrating Shower Gel ($28) are moisturizing experiences in a bottle. Like its soap counter part, shower gel can double time and get rid of pesky dead skin. Suave Sea Mineral Exfoliating Body Wash ($3) has Dead Sea salts to smooth skin daily. After a long day the perfect rememdy is a long shower. Help decompress to the maximum with special body washes like SebaMed Spa Shower ($15) or Ren Moroccan Rose Otto Body Wash ($27). Both have a combination of oils and fragrances that help to de-stress. As well, you can find your favorite scents in a bottle as well. Pacifica’s amazing scents is available as a body cleanser ($10). New to the market are Demeter’s Bath And Body Shower Gel ($22). Known for their too true eau du toilette, Demeter now gives you that option in the shower. For the fellas make them feel special in the shower with their own shower gel from J. Paul ($30). It is formulated for all the men’s needs, aka deep cleaning and that freshness they so desperately need. For those who have a small shower or lean towards the lazy side, this is when shower gel wins. It wins because it can often double time as shampoo and body wash, which is exactly what Rich ($13) is offering. It is a two-in-one luxurious shampoo body wash duo.
