There is a time and place for certain beauty stories. However, it is 2018 and every rule is being broken and I am going to jump on that trend. Every winter you read story, after story telling readers what is the best way to moisturize, what products actually work, and everything in between. Should we only care about moisturizing when winter weather dries us to the core. No, because lets face it climate change has made it that winter is NEVER going away, so this story is timely. BUT every person you meet who defies the aging process moisturizes. It keeps skin plump and hydrated to help fend off the weathering process.
It always starts in the shower. You should shower in warm water, which helps to open up pores. Use a moisturizing soap or body wash. The classic Dove Bar, in classic or sensitive skin, it is the perfect go to. With a quarter moisturizing cream in the formula, it helps start the process. For those who do not like a bar soap, Dove also offered a Deep Moisture Shower Foam ($6). Coconut milk has deep moisturizing qualities, and Caress combines that with botanicals for their rich Shower Foam ($7). It is free from sulphates and parabens, so it helps to work twice as hard. Once out of the shower, towel off and apply moisturized within the next three minutes. New from H2O Beauty is Mousse to Oil Body Moisturizers ($18). Skin absorbs oil for a fast, longer lasting thirst quencher. It however works best when skin is freshly cleansed. For a little more intense treatment, go for Lubriderm's Advanced Therapy Lotion ($7) that will deeply hydrate skin for a full day.
Then there is your face. Your body is to keep you comfortable. Moisturizing your face is to keep the haters guessing and the botox away. Like your body, you need to make sure that you are cleansing with products that do not strip away the moisture. Tuel has created a cleansing kit, Deep Pore Cleansing System Moisture Plus ($48), that has a balance of products to help keep skin at its best. It has a Cleansing Oil which is then wiped away with the Herbal Toner. Hot water does not even have a chance to strip skin of its moisture. It is also important to start with a fresh face, or as fresh as possible. This can be achieved with a gentle exfoliator such as YourGoodSkin Energizing Facial Scrub ($9). It works to wipe away dead skin, clear pores and smooth skin to be best prepared for the next steps in your skin care routine.
Sometimes after washing, skin can feel a little stressed from when cleansers strip away dirt. It is helpful to calm skin as quickly as possible. Spray face with Jurlique's Rosewater Balancing Mist ($35) to help refresh and hydrate skin. It instantly perks up skin to be ready for the next, important steps. There is a plethora of options to help moisturize your skin. I know sometimes moisturizers that are too heavy or thick bother and irritate my skin. However, just because they feel heavy does not mean they work better. At night, you need to use rest and a great moisturizer for maximum benefits. Elizabeth Arden tried and true, Ceramide Lift and Firm Night Cream ($78) is rich and dense, but skin soaks up all the nutrients. For all skin types, Confidence In A Cream ($48) from It Cosmetics is super hydrating, and you can feel it start to work instantly. When you leave the house, it is a non-negotiable that you must wear sun protection. Aveeno Absolutely Ageless Leave-On Day Mask Lotion ($22) is best for the thirstiest skin out there. It works through the day as you put in overtime at your job. For a lighter weight daily moisturizer, CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion with Sunscreen ($17) is a great option that can be worn under makeup. With moisturizing during the day, you may need to dust on some setting or mattifying powder to help absorb excess oil, if your skin is on the normal to oily side. However, you should never skimp on keeping your skin moisturized.
So sit back, and let your skin drink up all the happiness.
